iPhone 9 (aka iPhone SE 2): The Apple iPhone budget must be small and affordable

The iPhone SE of 2016 is Apple's first budget phone and a new version called iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2 will probably come out this spring. The time cannot come sooner, because rumors of the iPhone 2 SE have permeated for several years. That's because when the original iPhone SE was announced, it was a big surprise. It came out six months after the launch of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus with the same specifications, but has a callback from the beautiful 5S 5S. When the iPhone SE went on sale, Apple had difficulty meeting demand.

Over the past year, people have hoped for the same device and rumors are everywhere. Someone said that the phone would have Face ID, and another said it wouldn't. There are rumors that it will have a 4.7 inch screen, while others indicate it has a 5.4 inch screen. Some rumors call it the iPhone SE 2 and others suggest it will be the iPhone 9, filling the amount that Apple has passed from iPhone 8 to iPhone X.

The biggest rumor is that the new cellphone will have an iPhone 8 body, with an iPhone A13 processor and RAM 11. To dive deeper into all the rumors, check CNET rumor collection about the iPhone 9 (or iPhone SE 2).

With the iPhone XR and 11, Apple proved it can make a cellphone full of value.

This is not iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2. Instead, it is iPhone 8. A rumor states that Apple might use the body of the iPhone 8 and put the processor and RAM of the iPhone 11 in it. (Sarah Tew / CNET)
The success of the iPhone SE
Let's go back to 2016 and review why the iPhone SE is so successful. The iPhone SE costs $ 399, the lowest price for any "new" iPhone. Even four years ago it was still cheap for Apple, considering the new iPhone 6S started at $ 649.

While "SE" certainly means "special edition" for many people, it means "small edition." A year before, Apple released the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and at that time they were the largest iPhone ever. In comparison, the iPhone SE is really small, and lovers of small phones become captivated instantly.

Perhaps the biggest reason behind the success of the iPhone SE, however, is the smart compromise made by Apple. Like 6 and 6S, iPhone SE doesn't have optical image stabilization. It also doesn't have a 3D touch either. But given this, you still don't feel like getting a phone with "last year's technology" or two years old. SE can run iOS 9, the same as the more expensive 6S and 6S Plus, and take similar photos. However, people are willing to sacrifice some features to get a cellphone with a small form that is familiar and cheap.

In order for the new iPhone SE to be as attractive to customers as when it was first launched, Apple needed an attractive price, small size and smart compromise. That means the iPhone 9 must be under the same $ 399 price. I realize that the price of major phones has increased since 2016, but at the same time budget phones have come out that can be obtained for less than $ 300 or even less than $ 200.

The new budget iPhone should be smaller than the current iPhone 11 family, so a screen that is 4.7 inches, like on the iPhone 8 or even 5.4 inches (as rumored) will still be smaller than the 5.8 inch screen on the 11 Pro, which is the smallest iPhone currently available. For reference, the original iPhone SE has a 4 inch screen.

Apple also needs to make smart compromises. For example, adding an A13 processor would be wise, and I would be willing to live with a $ 399 iPhone if it only has one rear camera rather than two that are found on 11 or three behind the 11 Pro.

Apple iPhone SE recipe is adapted by Android
Apple hasn't sold out the iPhone SE for nearly a year and a half. During that time other telephone makers used similar budget telephone recipes to make convincing Android phones. One of the best budget phones I have ever used is the Moto G7, which costs $ 300. It has a Gorilla Glass 3 body, a modern small bezel design and runs a lightweight Android version of Motorola. It doesn't have the best camera, high screen refresh rate or a superior processor. But that is the smart trade-off that Motorola is making to achieve extremely low prices.

Last year, Google released $ 399 Pixel 3A. It has the same camera found on Pixel 3 and 3 XL, which even now is still one of the best cameras for photography on any mobile. Google added a slightly larger battery but the design is still simple. There is clearly sacrifice. The building was clearly plastic and did not have wireless charging or water resistance. Both Pixel 3A and Moto G7 are cellphones

If you open the Apple website, the "cheapest" new iPhone you can buy is the iPhone 8 for $ 449. That's a pretty good price when the Apple iPhone goes, but that doesn't change the fact that you get a phone that was released in 2017. In the year the years of the phone, that was long enough. People looking for an iPhone experience with a limited budget should trade-off tailored to be behind three generations.

That's where the iPhone 9 can come in and save the day. Even though it has the same body as 8, the iPhone 9 packed with processors from the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro will mean budget buyers will be able to last longer on the phone.

iPhone 9 creates an affordable way to service Apple
Because Apple makes its services more of a priority, having affordable access to iOS is a must. Last year, Apple changed the iPod touch and iPad mini, which apart from the updated processor, if not both are exactly the same as in 2015. But the new processor allows people to run iOS 13 along with Apple Arcade, Apple News Plus and Apple TV Plus .

The iPhone 9 will be an affordable way for people to get into the service and keep using it for longer than the iPhone 8. Theoretically, packing a budget phone with a new internal or now will allow you to use it in two more years.
